Mathew Allen Hughes was born October 13, 1973 in Hillsboro Illinois. Hughes is a professional mixed martial arts fighter and most notably a former UFC Welterweight Champion. Hughes trains as part of the Miletich Fighting Systems with Tim Sylvia, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion and former UFC champions Jens Pulver and Pat Miletich.

Matt Hughes is known for his ground and pound style and extreme strength. Hughes is a devout Christian, and has a twin brother named Mark Hughes who wrestled and beat Mtt in Junior High School. Matt no longer trains in mixed martial arts, however has competed in the UFC.
