Mirko Cro Cop was born on September 10, 1974 to his given name Mirko Filipovic. Mirko is a Croatian law enforcement officer who became a kickboxer and then became a mixed martial artist. Mirko’s professional name is derived from his membership in the Croatian police’s Anti Terrorist Group standing for “Cro(atian) Cop”.

Cro Cop has had numerous success in both PRIDE and K-1 Fighting Championships. On September 10, 2006, Cro Cop won the PRIDE 2006 Open – weight Grand Prix and in 2007 Marko graduated and began fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Cro Cop is infamous for his left high kicks, utilizing this technique he has knocked out many opponents. Marko holds notable wins over Wanderlei Silva, Josh Barnett, Kazushi Sakuraba and Mark Coleman in the mixed martial arts category, and against Peter Aerts, Remy Bonjasky, Jerome LeBanner and Mark Hunt in kickboxing.
